Rethinking the Moorean and Deweyan Scientific Project in Ethics (1903-2003)

Organised and hosted by the Centre for Ethics and Value Inquiry (CEVI) at Ghent University, Belgium, Friday 19 december, 10u-17u30, 2003

Full information on programme is available at www.flwi.ugent.be/cevi

Theme: This colloquium wants to both look back and look ahead to some of the developements in twentieth century theoretical and practical ethics.  It does this by commemorating the influential work of G.E. Moore and J.Dewey and more specifically by focusing on their different conceptions of the task(s) of the moralphilosopher in modern society. While it has no intention to stay within the confines of anglo-american ethics, this colloquium wants to reflect on (1) the plausibility of (social) science in ethical theory and on (2) the relation between ethics, politics and public policy.

Speakers: Asger Sørensen (Copenhagen Business School), Louis Logister (Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen), Jennifer Welchman (University of Alberta), Tom Claes (Universiteit Gent), Ronald Commers (Universiteit Gent), Tom Viaene (Universiteit Gent).

Ghent University, Conference Centre Het Pand, Priorzaal, Onderbergen 1, 9000 Gent, Belgium.
