--- Création d'une liste
de diffusion et de discussion des étudiants, doctorants, enseignants
chercheurs et professeurs en philosophie : e-metis, hébergée
par l'université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. Cette liste est
destinée à centraliser toutes les informations qui intéressent
les philosophes : séminaires, journées d'études et
colloques, parutions, appels à communications et à contributions,
postes ouverts au concours, bourses nationales et internationales, annonces
diverses, appels ou tribunes. Elle peut également constituer un
espace de discussions et d'échanges, dans les limites définies
par la net-étiquette. Il s'agit d'un outil facile d'utilisation,
accessible au plus grand nombre, qui vise à favoriser la communication
et la solidarité entre les différents acteurs et actrices
de notre discipline. Inscription.

| Antisophia |
1/ Platon donne le nom de "sophia" au savoir qui a cours dans la caverne
(516c); manière de dire aussi qu'il y a de la philosophie là
où le savoir cesse, avoue sa vacuité. Si la philosophie était
sagesse, elle ne pourrait pas être en même temps recherche.
Antisophia, c'est l'antisophistique, au sens de la défiance à
l'égard du savoir: la position humble et acharnée de celui
qui ne croit pas que la pensée s'achève dans le savoir, mais
qu'elle existe dans la recherche.
C'est une liste de "discussion" au sens de travail
collectif ou semi-collectif (et libre).
L'objectif de cette liste est de travailler, soit
sur le mode de l'explication et du commentaire (cursif ou non) des textes
de la tradition (sur le mode du séminaire), soit sur celui de la
proposition de texte à la réflexion des membres de la liste.
Bien sûr, est possible la diffusion de notes de lecture, de textes,
de traductions, et d'informations philosophiques (parutions, colloques,
appels de textes pour des revues). Les membres de la liste s'engagent à
ne pas diffuser ce qui circule sur la liste sans l'accord explicite des
"auteurs".
Il s'agit aussi d'un lieu de croisement des professeurs
de l'enseignement secondaire et des professeurs de l'enseignement supérieur.
2/ Sont exclues toutes discussions sur les conditions professionnelles de l'enseignement philosophique, sur les programmes et leur réforme, sur les élèves, sur les statuts administratifs, sur les syndicats, les associations. Pas de pétitions.
3/ Sont attendues, de la part des membres d'Antisophia, discrétion,
loyauté, rigueur, passion de la recherche, absence de pathologie
aux effets zététiques négatifs, humilité, enfin
générosité. Que ceux qui cherchent à diffuser
une idéologie, à promouvoir une cause politique, à
régler des comptes, à se plaindre, à se soigner, à
s'amuser, passent leur chemin.
Pratiquement, les messages doivent être aussi
corrects que possible: clairs, titrés précisément,
utiles et dépourvus d'acrimonie.
Charte:
ANTISOPHIA, lieu retiré et éclairé de philosophie.
Recherche. Rigueur. Générosité. Discrétion.
Liberté.
Modes:
- Séminaire: explication et commentaire (cursif ou non) des
textes de la tradition.

titrés précisément, utiles. Les messages ne sont pas
«modérés».
- Polémique possible mais avec noblesse.
- Respect des règles juridiques et morales basiques.

PHILOSOP is a "LIST" which runs on the Unversity Computing Services
machines at The University of Southwestern Louisiana, in Lafayette, Louisiana,
USA.
WHAT PHILOSOP IS FOR:
(1) Any message you send to PHILOSOP@USL.edu
(this is known as the "list address") will be distributed to
all subscribers. We refer, perhaps idiosyncratically, to such a message
as a "broadcast".
(2) You can use PHILOSOP as a file storage
and retrieval locale, in theory. However, in practice this
feature has not been implemented as yet at the current location.
There are the "owners" of the list, as mailing list terminology would have it. Owners have certain powers and certain custodial functions that, perforce, must be discharged. The aim is to do this in support of what is conceived to be the purpose of PHILOSOP:
To provide an easy, informal, and _fast_, way for people interested in academic Philosophy to exchange anything relevant that _can_ be exchanged _via_ this medium, and, taking that as given, to keep reasonably large the ratio of utility to volume.
By _academic_ Philosophy (or, anyway, its expression
in the word) we mean, approximately, the kind of professional writing
that is done by people studying (beyond the elementary level), or teaching,
in university philosophy departments. Texts satisfying that criterion might
be of many different kinds: work in progress, comments thereon, advertisements
for
conferences, newsletters, journals, or associations... job postings,
announcements of other mailing lists....
Our concern for the ratio of utility to volume is fairly easy to motivate. PHILOSOP is a broad church: most of the time most of its offerings are of slight interest to most of the flock. We have to strive to ensure that not too often are too many burdened with too much of these. To that end, these remarks:
When one has a text to go to PHILOSOP, it's worth pausing to consider whether it should be broadcast or whether it would be better to mearly announce theavailability of the text and then distribute it to intersted individuals by having them contact you and directly mailing a copy to them, making it avaliable by anonymous ftp, WWW page and so on. The longer the text the more likely the latter is the correct choice.

"Peter Sloterdijk is probably the foremost German thinker today, and
certainly the most controversial. He examines the modern human condition
by engaging in actual discussions e.g., on genetic engineering, mass media,
and the unification of Europe. On the other hand however, he tries to clarify
the world we have ended up in, by reflecting on such seemingly
unrelated topics like medieval gnosis, the history of enlightment,
and the pitfalls of autobiographic writing.
Sloterdijk is well-known for his satiric Nietzschean aphorisms and statements, while he is also strongly inspired by Heidegger. There he finds a language to describe the undercurrents of modern thinking and society without falling into metaphysics or nihilism. To delve up the fundaments of modernity and post-modernity Sloterdijk descends into older times and far-away places, whose glitter however still seems to link to our time. In his descriptions and elaborations of these older ideas, Sloterdijk's writings remind of Foucault's because of his distanced but still passionate style. Like Foucault, Sloterdijk's works are also motivated by the critical impulse, which is best exemplified in his well-known book "Critique of Cynical Reason".
Sloterdijk has shown that humor and earnest may well go hand in hand
in modern philosophy. This group aims to reflect this co-existence of relativism
and passion. Therefore all practical information, (re)-citations, discussions,
questions and presentations of conceptions of Sloterdijk's works are welcome.
Attention may also be drawn to parts of Sloterdijk's
books you think that are particularly revealing or to relations of
Sloterdijk's works to other authors like Nietzsche, Heidegger, Foucault,
or other older or more modern thinkers. Finally all Sloterdijkian analyses
of phenomena in the popular culture, Zeitgeist, and the human condition
are very welcome.
